[ Nothing interesting on the video feed here, just a black-haired boy with his pikachu's head poking from the bottom of the screen. ]

Hi, my name's Red. I've got a couple of questions... I wanted to ask about first aid and the battle dome, and also if there's anybody that knows about fixing things? [ He looks away ] I don't have anything broken, but I wanted to have something looked at.

[ Right, anyway. Back to the screen. ]

But with the first aid... I was wondering if anyone had the time to help me see if I know what I'm doing? I got taught how to put on bandages a long time ago, but I don't think I was doing it right the last time I did it.

[ Maybe it had been fine, but a refresher would be good either way. ]

Anyway, then the battle dome - I wanted to know about what fighters train against in there. [ This was going to be hard, but ] I know people here have different abilities, and what we can handle is different too. I've tried creatures not from my world, but I guess...

[ What does he guess? He thinks, pinching his bottom lip in. ]

...I guess I just want to know if there's something better me and my pokémon can do. Everything's still challenging in the battle dome, but I want -- more? [ Um.

That sounds... bad? He fidgets, then shrugs. ] I don't know. I thought it'd be interesting to know what else we could fight on there. That's about it really.

[ Private voice to Caius (

accepted) ]

Hey, Caius. [ He pauses, trying to think of how to continue... ] You fight with a sword, right? I want to practice with you sometime, if you've got the time.

[ Despite how she says it, he can't imagine the fight of creatures that would be off-putting. It's not that which makes him but, but instead his options. ]

...Are there any you think me and my pokémon can handle?

[ Because in comparison, what they can take on and what Saori can are two entirely different things in Red's mind. Not that he wouldn't mind if they were that strong, but... ]

Yes, there are.

[She immediately taps out a few commands on the console, bringing up some things and changing some others in the simulation.]

I'll give you a few things to practice with, but there will be things your pokemon will have to fight, and not you. I'll give you something, too, but you have to remember these creatures aren't anything like what you're used to.

[ That was fine. Really, he meant his pokémon more than himself, but he realised he would have to be careful about how he said that. He was learning to fight himself too. ]

Alright. I'll be careful. [ Even if a trainer didn't fight, they had to keep on their toes. ]

[A few commands later, and Saori leads them into a chamber. Inside is an open, sunny expanse of grass and a few trees. Not far away a hill begins, leading up to a small shrine, and the entire area overlooks a seaside cliff. It's all clearly crafted in rather loving detail, right down to the butterflies and sunflowers.

Saori's smile brightens a good deal as she enters, an almost imperceptible tension leaving her body. This was home, in a way. The place where she felt most comfortable.]

Alright Red, get ready, and get the lay of the land. I'll call the first opponent when you are.

[ Red follows, both her lead and her instruction. He looks at the layout carefully, walking a few steps as he does; the ground's flat for the most part, but rising up towards the back. Not enough trees for cover, but might be useful in a few possible scenarios.

He nods a silent command for Pikachu to stay on his shoulder for now, and heApokéball unclips from his waist, nodding to Saori when he looks over. ]

I'm ready.

[She nods in kind, and starts to walk over towards the shrine, taking a seat on a bench at the base of the hill to watch. Then she claps twice, and the first opponent materializes out of thin air. A creaturewith a vaguely human shape, standing at least seven feet tall. It's skin is a dusky red, heavily muscled, and a pair of horns jut out from it's wild mane of hair. It's eyes gleam with a malevolent intelligence, and it's first response is to grin at the boy, showing a maw of sharp teeth. Several lanterns dance around it's head, marked with blood-red characters, and lit with a sickly blue-green flame. And in it's grip is a heavy looking tree-branch, a sort of makeshift club.]

This, Red, is a Lantern-Oni. It's one of the scouts that lights the path for Hell's troops. It's not very strong compared to some demons, but it should be a good challenge for you. I will warn you that Saur's sleeping powder won't work on it. They don't sleep, so you'll need to actually fight it.

[And once that's said, it takes a step forward, leering.]

[ It's -- definitely something. Red's eyes go from its face to the lanterns, though it takes a moment to look at anything else at first than its form. It's big, but no bigger than some pokémon, and while it's nothing like a machoke, it's probably something like the fighter by the look of it.

So maybe Snorlax wouldn't be the best here. And he actually has Venusaur's ball in his hand.

You'll need to actually fight it.

No problem.

Feeling its eyes on him, Red twitches, but he doesn't freeze. He puts her ball close to his lips and speaks a quiet word, then sends it out with that familiar beam of white light following, the ball returning to his grasp. He doesn't delay- ]

Leech and double-edge!

[ She comes out with her feet running forward, ready to bulldoze the entirety of herself straight into the monster of Hell. Yet it's not the only attack hoping to be made, if Venusaur isn't thrown off at all during her run forward - when from the top of her flower comes out multiple yellow seeds shooting off towards the beast, meant to hit against its body and clasp around instantly by budding on contact. ]

[The oni stamps it's foot and prepares to charge, but seems somewhat surprised when Venusaur appears in it's path. She's not nearly as heavy as the mountain demon, but it's not really trying to avoid being attacked. After all, it's just some weird plant creature. It does shift it's weight slightly and slams into Venusaur, driving it's full weight into it.

But those seeds do hit, and they do start budding, tendrils and creepers beginning to slide along the muscular monster's skin...]

[ As they both slam into each other, its a force that Venusaur feels strongly against her front body, but she refuses to be pushed back even as she growls out at the pain.

The leech seeds don't take affect right away, wrapping around almost innocent without causing much of a noticeable disturbance for the monster, except beyond a tickling sensation. While they do, Venusaur takes out her vines to try and take hold of the monster's arms, aiming to curl around to take some control or to throw them off. ]

Get rid of the weapon! On your left!

[ Venusaur hears the warning, but what plans does the Lantern-Oni have? ]

[The ploy to get control of his arms works somewhat. He's not really able to swing his club and he's stuck in a standstill...but he's straining against the vines, his powerful arms trying to break free.

And at the same time? He starts chomping down at Venusaur, his jaws opening as he tries to get a good bite in on her.]

[ -- Crap. Turns out focusing on that weapon right now is the least of their problems. She tries backing off from the jaws, unable to use his own arms to deflect his mouth though she tries, and Red knows he has to think quick-- ]

Giga drain!

[ Unless he intends to munch down on her plant, her body is harder to reach for a munch on. Meanwhile Venusaur's vines glow, and the rooted seeds around the foe's body begin to glow as well in the same light. From them she takes its energy, absorbing away as much as she can before the beast might begin to thrash harder to break off her main tendrils. ]

[He's aiming for her neck, actually, but reaching it is all but impossible given the angle. The draining move though, works like a charm. Sort of.

The demon shrieks in rage and thrashes even more wildly, and the glow turns to a sickly purple as the vines on it's body wither and die.]

If you're draining it, stop. [Saori's response is amused, in a way.]

It's life force is cursed.

[ There's a small 'huh?' when he sees what's happening, but as soon as Saori explains- ]

Saur, stop!

[ The vines break off into nothing and she takes her steps heavily back, shaking her body in response to the poisonous force. Red sends out the command for Synthesis, a quick way to refresh and take some of her pains away. The lighting of the room may be artificial, but it's enough to support the Venusaur more than relying upon her own power. ]

[The oni tears itself free, taking a step back and studying it's opponent. The intelligence Saori had programmed it with didn't quite cover plant dinosaurs, so it doesn't really know what to do. Except that it's nature is to just cause as much pain and suffering as possible.

Which is why when it sees Red there, clearly giving the orders, the hellspawn goes for the obvious route to fulfill it's nature. It starts to run towards him, trying to get around Saur and smash the boy.]

[ There isn't much Venusaur can do to stop it; her speed isn't exactly slow, but she's still a hefty four-legged creature, and being without her vines - they'll need time to regrow - means she can only roar and try to give chase with first an awkward turn on her heel that delays that plan.

It means Red has to act, fast. But for him, that doesn't mean moving. ]

Pika, [ Red readies his feet, holding out his arm for his pokémon to have free room and giving out the order quick, ] Get ready for nuzzle!

[ Pikachu's cheeks spark once his directions are given, knowing what it is that his trainer plans to do. Red waits until there's a moment to distinguish if the monster plans to slam him or raise the weapon, or at least enough for Pikachu to leap off from his arm with a ] Go! [ and to latch himself onto the beast, sending a rush of electricity meant to paralyse it as Red tumbles into a (not-so-graceful) roll for the side. ]

[Given the difference in size and weight between them, the oni is more interested in just running him over. And he's so focused on doing it that he doesn't see Pikachu on him till it's too late. Electricity pulses and his muscles seize up, the charge aborted as the demon falls to the ground, twitching.]

[ Pikachu jumps off before the beast falls, Red watching still crouched as he tries to decide whether it's safe or not. Keeping still probably wouldn't help if it isn't, so he does pick himself up, but moving away just in case.

-- but Venusaur. He looks over to the pokémon, who stands watching the fallen oni but catches her trainer's eye. He gives Pikachu a small motion over to him, and carefully and quickly takes the both of them over to the grass pokémon, Red wanting to check to see if she's okay.

Knelt before her though, he does look over to where Saori is, but then back to the monster. Was it over...? ]

[Saori stands up and walks over to stand between the fallen simulation and the boy, looking at the creature and nudging it with a foot.]

He won't get back up. Electricity hurts them, as they were spirits of metalworking before they became tainted.

[As she says this, the oni crumbles away, leaving no trace of it ever having been there.]

What did you think?

[ He sorta wants to ask if Venusaur will be okay, but it's a simulation, so he knows he's only being overprotective. He'll get her something from his bag in a minute. For now, he touches the side of her face with a caring hand. ]

...It was different. [ And odd. He didn't really have a clear image of Saori's world, but that wasn't something he imagined. ] Those exist in your world? Leading armies?

[She snorts disdainfully and shakes her head.]

They lead nothing. They're scouts. They go ahead of an army to find where their enemies are. Lantern Oni are fast, but not particularly smart. But...they aren't something that makes it into the human world very often. Generally, they really only are found on the borders between Heaven and Hell.

[ Fast, but weak to lightning... but even though it wasn't particularly smart, it was enough to consider coming after him. ]

Do you think Pikachu could've taken it down by himself? [ But just being able to easily cripple a foe wouldn't teach them anything. ]

Actually... is there anything stronger?

Possibly. If you knew it's weakness right away, though, it wouldn't have been fun.

[She gives him a knowing look, understanding what he's asking. Something stronger?]

Yes, there are lots of stronger things. Would you like to try fighting a footsoldier instead of a scout?

[ He nods in agreement to what she first says, but then does so again to the next part. ]

I just want to heal Venusaur first. [ Even if that won't help regrow her vines, it should hopefully make her feel better. ]

Then allow me.

[Saori reaches out to touch her, gently infusing her with some of Nala's magic and calling up a small rain cloud for her to clean up a bit.]

Though, I want to warn you, the foot soldiers are bigger and stronger.

[ Oh, thanks there dude. ]

We'll do it. [ And here, he'll even let out Snorlax ready. He's been listening and awake, look at this big dude smack his fist against his hand all pumped up and ready. ] We need to get stronger.

[ Snorlax snorts; he would be a proud of his power pokémon if he didn't love food so much (j/k he's both). ]
