[ A Add another number to the newbie arrival for this month. Red thankfully has friendly company to help him realise what the heck is on his back, and also to rip some holes in his shirt so he can stop wearing nothing over his chest. He's carrying the rest of the clothes though, he's not messing around with changing out in a forest at this time.

Maybe you're lurking around in the forest for whatever, and wow what is that big thing you see through the trees? Or wow, what's that faint, pleasant smell in the air?

But they'll also be found in the town, with the boy and his three pokémon finding themselves led there thanks to a good pair of ears.

They're free to approach, or maybe Red will approach your character should they not seem to be in a rush. ]

[ B A little trouble may or may not occur. Did somebody say something about Luceti and cookies??? Who's cooking? Because that aforementioned big round guy? Red was led to the town by Pikachu's ears and Snorlax's impressive Food Is Here senses. So if anybody is baking right now, the snorlax might juuust try to circle around your house (or wherever it is you're cooking), to try and find the source and how to get to the source.

What is that shadow creeping outside your kitchen window? What is that rattling on your door knob? Are you not even in a house with food? Well, you may not be so alone for long...

[ Red may or may not really get this thing already. Either way he, with maybe the head of one of his pokémon peeking at the side, will be looking at the book in bewilderment. ]

It is! It's all stuck together into one thing! But it's not like one solid block of metal, it's made up of different parts. [...] That's what makes it lighter. If it was just one lot of metal then it would be a lot heavier and it would just weigh your arm down and get in the way... I think.

[Just because he uses these things doesn't mean he knows how they're made exactly! ... Kind of like how Red uses pokeballs and doesn't know how they work!]

Hmm...I guess I'll know it when I see it. It looks pretty weird in my head though... but I've only seen a shield once.

I guess your world doesn't need many shields. In my world weapons and shields are the best way to defend yourself, but in yours you have your Pokémon for that. [... Uh. He's not calling Pokémon weapons-] I know Pokémon are more than just that though.

[Nod! It's fine though, no offence taken.] Well, some people see pokémon in all different ways... some people see them like bodyguards. But as long as they love them and take care of them...

[Calming down, and the slow realisation that maybe Caius's world is vastly different, and needing of swords and shields- well, maybe it is a more dangerous environment. ...maybe he'll think about it more later.]

Yeah, I get that much. [You wouldn't want to mistreat the things that protect you. Looking after your equipment is a lot like caring for a Pokemon, in a way.] And that's it for now. I've got some other things that might show up but my arm guard is what I need most out of all the other stuff.

[He had all sorts of things with him ~~since he's an RPG hero~~ after all the traveling he had done, but there wasn't much he carried that was vitally important that he couldn't find some version or another of here. While he can fight without the arm guard, it helps having something to defend himself with that he's used to using.]

And if I find it, should I use this thing to tell you?

That would be the best way to do it, yeah. Just make another entry in the same way you made this one and I'd get back to you... Oh yeah, and if you wanted to make it so only I hear about what you find you could put a filter on your entry too.

A filter? [Oh no, what. He's looking around the journal page now.] Is it easy?

Uh... Kind of. You have to make up a puzzle and put it into your journal so that what you're doing can't be seen by anyone but who you want to see it. If you're good with puzzles it's easy. [Sadly he isn't.] Not long after I got here I was given these sheets of paper that told me how to make hard to break filters. I should try and find those again sometime.

Ergh. [Sounds dumb.] I'll just do it without one. It's not like it's super big secret.

[He actually does like puzzles... just, not enough at this moment.]

Doing it without one is fine, we've already talked about it here so anyone could know about what we're looking for now if they bothered to listen anyway.

[He shrugs.] Still, it's good to know that filters exist in case you ever need one for whatever reason.

Think anybody would've listened to us for this long? [Not that he does, but it's an odd thought that somebody could (or would???)]

No way, I don't see why anyone would bother listening in up until now. It's just us talking about pokémon and equipment and stuff anyway. [Unless there's someone really into pokéballs and shields out there who is listening in all the same!]

Hehe, yeah, it'd be really weird if they did.

Just a little, yeah. I mean I know there are trainers around and lots of guys who are good at fighting, so someone might be. But...

[Still kind of strange to think someone might have been listening in to the whole conversation.]

Couldn't they say something if they wanted to know something? [Actually.] Can you do that? Talk to someone when they're talking to someone else.

They could... [Probably the better way to go about it really rather than being all sneaky.] And yeah, you can. Just speak up while they're talking or write something to send to them, same as you would use the journal for anything else.

So I guess the journal is just used for talking and- sending files or something. More like the internet than a phone.

[Except you can do three-way conversations on phones right?? But you can't share guides over phones...]

Yeah, that's all of it. You can link other replies from people and other entries they've made... And if you can draw something in the journal you can send that too. [He's pretty sure they've covered everything about the journal at this point.] I know they're kind of like phones since they let you talk to people, but what's the internet?

[Phones he's familiar with. Internet? Nope.]

You don't have the internet? It's like... you can read pages on it and share pictures and messages with other people. Do you know about computers? They're super handy.

My world doesn't have computers, I only know a little about them from being here but I've never had the chance to use one... It sounds like you're just talking about the journals again though, so they must be really similar.

Probably, but they don't look the same. You can't hold them. ... can you listen to music on this? You can do that. And watch videos that aren't other people talking! Or they can be, but not like we are right now -- like TV shows.

If someone else is playing music and their journal is on then everyone else can hear it, if that's what you mean. And if someone is watching something then you can watch it with them on the journals too... Like movies, or TV shows too I guess. [Though he's more familiar with the former.]

Uhmmm... are they watching and playing the music on the journals? 'Cause that's how you do it on a computer. Like you want to watch something so you go to a website that lets you watch stuff. Or let's you listen to music! Nobody else has to be watching or listening to them if you want to watch them.

[The internet. What a weird-sounding place from Red's mouth.]

[Uh. Website? ... Give him a moment to come up with a reply.] You can play music and watch stuff over the journals. I think that's right, since you're kinda just watching and listening to what someone else is doing. So really the internet is like a TV and a music player rolled into one?
