[ When the video turns on in the very early morning, there's only half a face present before it comes up fully onto the screen. The boy is practically beaming at the journal, and there's only a second before-- ]

Ivysaur evolved!

[ Yes. He couldn't keep that excitement in. He's still got a really dumb smile on and he has to remember what he was going to say, a pause there before he continues. ]

If you don't know what an ivysaur is, they're a grass and poison type pokémon! Ivysaur's been with me since she was a bulbasaur and now she's huge! She's big! She's nearly as big as Snorlax is!

[ The camera faces down to a dusty ground, then comes back up. ] I'm going to show you her, okay? [ And then the book flips around, showing a large, blueish-greenish toad-skin looking monster with a flower protruding from her back from the front, standing at 6'10 (for those who can tell). She leans her head to the side, her mouth opening slightly and showing her fangs as she grunts a small sound. She's embarrassed by the fuss, but the yellow rodent at her feet displays her with his arms proudly out towards her. Pika! (Check her out!)

(Also from the background, some might be able to tell that they're at the farm. Why are they at the farm so early? Because.) ]

Isn't she cool? She is! --oh, hey, Snorlax! Stand next to her and show everyone how big she is next to you!

[ The recording swings over to show a very fat panda creature sitting down eating a pile of bread. He continues eating, and as Red begs again ("C'mon, Snooorlax!"), the creature proceeds to noisily shuffle his butt to face the opposite direction. Noopppee. ] Snor! You...!

[ Huff! He faces the screen back to himself finally, making a puffed face but not so seriously. ] Forget about him! Saur's amazing and that's all that matters!

[ And then one last smile! ]

Ah, a Venasaur! [oh my gosh, Cilan's never seen a real one before outside of books or on TV until now, (they're not very common Pokemon in Unova, after all) so there is definitely a very interested Connoisseur tuning in now] And you said that it just evolved from Ivysaur recently, right?

[pokeboy]

Yep! We woke up to go to the farm and she decided to evolve!

[ Ta daaa. ]

[cilantro]

Oh, how wonderful! This is quite an amazing taste! [He kind of wishes he had been there to see it evolve in person, but alas.] Congratulations to the two of you, for having such a strong bond that helped allow this evolution to take place!

[pokeboy]

Heheh, thanks! She's always been a really hard worker. I bet all the sunlight helped too.

[cilantro]

Oh, absolutely! Sunlight is often a necessary ingredient to the health and strength of many grass-type Pokemon, after all. The warmth of the sun can be very soothing, and they can utilize the energy they gain from it in order to grow even stronger. Pansage would certainly agree that it has a beneficial flavor that tastes of relaxation!

[Due to hearing its name being mentioned, Pansage jumps up to cling to its trainer's shoulder, chiming something in Pokemon speak as it tries to get a look at the Venasaur in the journal from where its perched. Yep, that is definitely a strong-looking Pokemon from what we can see...]

[ Red's leaning against the side of Venusaur, so he can see... that much! Maybe even a glimpse of the side of her head. But Red certainly smiles brighter at the sight of him! ]

You make everything sound smart when you say it. [ but oh, idea ] Hey, do you train here in this place? Maybe we could train together sometime!

[ It's kind of related to the subject!? ]

[cilantro]

[Well, we are a Pokemon Connoisseur, it's only natural that we would sound smart. But he beams at the suggestion.]

Yes, of course! That would be wonderful! [Cilan claps his hands together.] We'd be happy to train with you and your Pokemon whenever you'd like, right Pansage?

[Pansage nods in agreement. They'd both be very interested to see Red's Pokemon and how well they work together!]

Great! We usually train at the battle dome now... but a trainer match would be even better!

[ And maybe he won't be as out-powered as he was with Gold...!? Red can only hope!! ]

Where're you from, by the way? You know... your pokémon looks like another one I saw.

[cilantro]

[Cilan would certainly not say no to a trainer match, and surely he wouldn't be that overpowering...]

Ah, then perhaps you've met my brother? Chili has a Pokemon similar to mine as well, but his is a red Pokemon named Pansear, while I have Pansage here with me. [In response, Pansage puts a hand proudly against its chest, as if to say "We're the best one between us okay", as Cilan continues to speak.] The two of us are from Striaton City of the Unova region, where Pokemon like these are more commonly found.

Unova... oh, I know another guy who said he went there! How far is that from Kanto? You must have a whole pile of pokémon of your own there!

[cilantro]

From what I've heard, we are quite far from the Kanto region--you'd have to travel far by plane or boat in order to reach us. And there are many Pokemon in Unova that are considered to be rare or hard to find in other regions, including Kanto. The same, naturally, is true of Kanto, in that there are many Pokemon there that you'd be hard-pressed to find here in Unova.

Take Pikachu, for example. I have yet to ever see one living within the wild of Unova, and until I met Ash, the only Pikachu I had seen before had been in books or on TV. [Same goes for Venasaur and Snorlax--this is the first time he's ever seen a glimpse of one that wasn't just a description of them in a book or in a movie or something.]

Ash was the guy who told me about Unova! [ Hey, a name he knows! ] And that all makes sense... though, I'm meant to be catching all the pokémon for a professor, so it sounds like I've got a long time to go before I'm even close to done.

[cilantro]

Well, there are hundreds of Pokemon living in the world, so it will certainly take quite a while to "catch them all", so to speak. Nonetheless, I will wish you the best of luck in your endeavor to do so!

So, did Ash tell you anything else about Unova? [Hopefully they were nice things about it, right?]

[pokeboy]

No, just that he's been there. I think we figured out that we both started our journey around the same time? But he's gone to way more places than me somehow, and taken on all the gyms!

[cilantro]

Mm. Ash's record when it comes to how many gyms and places he's been to has a very impressive taste to it for one so young. I've yet to hear everything about all of the regions he's been to yet, but from what he has told me so far, it sounds like he's had a very exciting journey. It's likely that, once our journey in Unova is complete, he'll head off to another region to try to collect all of their badges as well, and I'm sure he'll likely succeed in doing so.

[But judging by something Iris said to us when she was here, it sounded like we won't be going with him when that happens...still, Cilan has confidence in his friend in that he will do just as well there as he did when they were traveling together in Unova.]

He did say he's taken on a lot of the leagues... is he a really good battler?

[cilantro]

Hm...I won't say that he's perfect, but he certainly has a unique flavor to him when it comes to his battles. [We could tell you stories about some of them, like how he only showed up to Elesa's gym battle with one Pokemon and had to run back out to get another one...but...]

Some of the strategies he comes up with can occasionally be very creative, and he's the type of person who doesn't let things like type disadvantages or size seem like a deterrent. He has a lot of faith in his Pokemon, even when the odds seem stacked against him, and usually that faith is what helps the battles end in his favor.

[pokeboy]

Hmm, so... he's quick on his feet on he needs to be.

[ That's what it sounds like anyway, amongst other things too. A trainer who doesn't care about size or type disadvantages... well, shouldn't that be an ingredient necessary for any good trainer in the making of a good battle trainer? ]

[cilantro]

[You'd be amazed how obsessed people in the anime are about type advantages sometimes...]

Yes, that's one way to think of it. His impulsive nature, his determination to win...yes, it makes his battles interesting to watch, and very enjoyable to take part in either as his opponent or as a partner in tag battles. And win or lose, he always seems to have fun no matter the outcome.

[pokeboy]

[ And this conversation became totally invalid with the two having a match apparently in the past sorted in the future, BUT WHO CARES. ]

Don't you too? I lost here to a trainer... but it's made me want to try even harder to get better. Knowing you can be that strong one day, or have matches where your opponent is just as good... losing sucks, but battling is the best!

[ Says the guy who will one day coop himself up on top of a mountain. ]

[Again, you'd be amazed at how much of a big deal that is once in a while in the anime. Then again, that might just be that we tend to be in the company of some trainers who did take their losses rather hard: see Trip or Burgundy, for example. Nonetheless, Cilan claps his hands together at Red's response.]

Yes, that's what I like to hear! You have a very admirable spirit as a trainer!

Heheh! Good! You gotta if you want to be the best! [ Gosh, he feels like such a shounen protagonist boy!! But let's put that aside for now, because- ]

Oh! By the way, you like talking about taste buds so much...!! Do you wanna have some cake? There's gonna be cheesecake for everyone!

["Talking about taste buds" gosh that's not how we would describe our wonderful vocabula--did you say cake.]

Oh, that sounds wonderful! I'd love to try a slice, if you don't mind! [...Critiquing and commenting about it's taste afterward is probably expected from him at this point though.]

[ The dude making the cake might actually like that. Maybe. ]

Sure! A friend is making a cake to celebrate and he told me to invite people, sooo...I'm inviting people! I should probably warn him about how many I've invited... but I'll give you the address when it's ready!
