Professor Oak was looking for people to help him complete the pokédex, and my team and I impressed him enough with our capture skills -- that's why we've got one. [She likes it, and she likes capturing, buuut...] Really, it was so he'd fund the orphanage in Violet City so we could get books for learning and to make it a safer place for the children to stay in.
