His version of our world is really confusing anyway. He's been to a bunch of different regions in no time at all, but I'm still in the same one for half the time he's been travelling? Talking about it didn't make sense.
Well for us, Pikachu doesn't want to evolve. Not all pokémon do I've found. But you don't just want to evolve a pokémon right away -- maybe for a pokémon called eevee it'd make sense? Since they evolve into different elemental types depending on the stone you use, so they'll want to get used to a body of that element.
But there's more to being a pokémon than just evolving! Evolution is cool and all, but you want to bond with a pokémon first and learn about them. What if you started working with someone and they made you change right away? You'd have to get used to the different changes later on, but... I don't know, wouldn't it be scary?
